Academy Award winner Louis Gossett Jr. has died at age 87.  Gossett Jr.’s household stated in a press release obtained and shared by PEOPLE: “It’s with our heartfelt remorse to substantiate our beloved father handed away this morning. We wish to thank everybody for his or her condolences at the moment. Please respect the household’s privateness throughout this troublesome time.”

Gossett’s first cousin Neal L. Gossett informed The Related Press that the actor died in Santa Monica, California, with a press release from the household sharing that Gossett died Friday morning. No explanation for dying was revealed, nonetheless, Gossett battled prostate most cancers and respiratory sickness brought on by poisonous mildew in his former residence previous to his dying.
