There’s been a long-running and really healthful mutual love and respect between Metallica and Elton John – from the Rocket Man showing on 2021’s enormous The Blacklist Album, to calling Nothing Else Issues “among the finest songs ever written” in an interview and making James Hetfield nicely up.
And now, ’Tallica are sharing their appreciation proper again, honouring Elton and his equally legendary songwriting companion Bernie Taupin at a tribute live performance in Washington, D.C. for the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Common Track.
Papa Het and co. joined everybody from Joni Mitchell to Charlie Puth on the occasion, which celebrated a whopping 56 years of Elton and Bernie’s music.
