Just lately Gena Branscombe’s grandson, Roger, despatched me a replica
of a poem he had discovered within the household information. Over a few years the crumpled piece
of paper held the phrases to a poem titled,
“Farewell to THE OLD TIMER” To the fitting of the title is typed, “American
Folksy Music of 1942 (With apologies to all involved.”)
With nice humor the poem writers, who had been Branscombe
Choral members, describe in nice element the demise of Miss Branscombe’s “rack.” Gena raised her wand to beat the time and the
rack went down! The “rack” is clearly
her conductor’s stand that with a lot help couldn’t be revived. The Choral members discovered the “dough” to present
their beloved conductor a brand new rack hoping she doesn’t need the outdated one again! What fantastic humor and one does surprise what
the “American Folksy Music of 1942” was.
This poem/music will need to have been carried out by Choral members at
their annual Spring luncheon.
In 1942 with World Struggle II raging in Europe and the South Pacific, America’s armed forces had been preventing to protect our nation’s freedom. The ladies of the Branscombe Choral collected cash to
change her conductor’s music stand and saved their humor about the whole
occurring. Their family members might have
been overseas preventing within the warfare. The Choral
members had been making music and reminiscences with their conductor, Gena Branscombe.
Irrespective of our nation’s arduous occasions, irrespective of our private
tales whether or not blissful or unhappy, music doth soothe the soul….as does humor.
