There’s an enormous retro-blues
attraction to the brand new album from Washington DC space bluesman Linwood Taylor. Taylor,
whose musical influences embody Muddy Waters, Albert Collins,
and Luther Allison recorded Two Sides stay in a few periods
in 2021 at two completely different venues. One location featured 5 songs from the electrical
set, and the opposite featured 5 songs from the acoustic set. With Taylor
mastering guitars and vocals, his band is comprised of Steve Wolf on
bass, Joe Wells on drums, and Sol Roots on guitars and backing
vocals.
The electrical facet begins with
some party-infused Chicago blues as they roll out a smokin’ cowl of Bonnie
Lee’s “I’m Good”. With a rocking soulful riff, “Protected to Say” rapidly attracts
me in. The vitality jogs my memory of the Black Crowes in a manner. The riveting swamp
blues of Slim Harpo’s “Shake Your Hip” is a deal with to listen to. It’s
fearless and uncooked, identical to the blues must be.
The slide on dobro places a
smile on my face because the acoustic facet begins with a timeless delta blues type authentic
“Love My Child”. This facet heats up much more as Taylor takes on the
basic “Rollin’ and Tumblin’” and makes it his personal. For acoustic blues, a Robert
Johnson monitor is a should, and Taylor does a wonderful job of performing
“Mud My Broom”.
Followers of real-deal blues will
positively wish to verify Two Sides from Linwood Taylor out. It’s as
strong because it will get.
